5 www.siouxcityjournal.com Sioux City Journal, Sunday, Oct. 21, 2007-A11 OBITUARIES Daniel C. Hoffa LE MARS, Iowa Daniel C. Hoffa, 84, of Le Mars passed away Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at is home in Le Mars.
Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Monday at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. Drew Tomberlin officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Was mer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars. Dan will be cremated, and his cremains will be buried at the Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery at Burlington, Iowa.
Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday, with the family present after 6 p.m., at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through Christopher www.carlsenfuneralhome.com. Hoffa was born Sept. 5, 1923, in Grundy County, Iowa, to Jacob D.
and "Minnie (Boike) Hoffa. At the age of 15, Dan graduated from Grundy Center High School in 1939. He attended Marshalltown Business College for two years. While attending school, Dan worked at a local funeral home and a delivered newspapers and worked as a janitor to pay for his schooling. Dan served his country during World War II in the U.S.
Army, stationed at various bases throughout the country. Prior to being discharged, Dan was assigned to the Separation Center at Fort Dix. He attained the rank of master sergeant. He served in the reserves from 1946 to 1949. Following his discharge from the Army, Dan attended the University of Iowa from 1946 until his graduation in 1950.
He served as president of the Delta Sigma Pi Fraternity. He was sales and business manager of the Iowa Hawkeye Yearbook, conceived and developed by the University of Iowa Job Placement Bureau, and was recognized by the Finkbine Organization as an outstanding senior for promoting and developing improvements in the University of Iowa College of Commerce. He was united in marriage to Jane Ellen Fall on April 15, 1951, at the Fall home Burlington, Iowa. Dan began his career with B.F. Goodrich in -1951 as a store manager.
He later became a credit manager and then was promoted to Midwest credit manager. Dan and his family lived in several cities throughout the Midwest. He retired from B.F. Goodrich in 1980. He and Jane purchased Lynn's Card and Gift Shop in Le Mars in 1981.
They devoted great effort to maintaining the health of downtown Le Mars and eventually opened two other retail stores in the downtown. They operated these stores until retirement in 1996. Dan was a devout Christian and was always active in all the churches of which he was a member. He was a member of Lions International in Le Mars and Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars. He enjoyed playing golf and watching sports.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Jane of Le Mars; two sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel C. and Esther Hoffa of Indianola, Iowa, and Robert J. and Debra Hoffa of Indianapolis, a daughter and son-inlaw, Sara J. and Ernie Schillinger of Johnston, Iowa; and seven grandchildren, Rhiannon, Angela, Christina, Elizabeth, Jessica, Kimberly and Matthew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jacob D. and Min- nie (Boike) Hoffa; a sister, Margaret Menter; and a brother, Merle Hoffa. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland. Ramon 'Ray' Jespersen AKRON, Iowa Ramon "Ray" Jespersen, 97, of Akron, former mayor of Akron, passed away Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, at Akron Care Center in Akron.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Akron, with Pastor Mike Avery officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery at Akron. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Ramon Roy Jespersen was born March 13, 1910, on the family farm north of Wagner, S.D., the son of Hans and Carolena (Wiechmann) Jespersen. He attended school in. Wagner and graduated from high school. He attended South Dakota State University, where he was in R.O.T.C.
for two years. He married Helen Staska. They lived in Wagner, where Ray started his own trucking business. Early in the 1940s, they moved to Akron. Ray purchased a gas station in town.
Later, he started Jespersen Oil, where he sold and distributed oil products throughout the country. Then the business became known as Akron Oil Sales. After selling the business, Ray became a personal contractor in Akron, building and remodeling homes in the community for several years. Ray was united in marriage to Margaret "Mickey" Hartmann on July 5, 1962. He was very active in the community of Akron, serving on the city council for three years and was the mayor for 15 consecutive years.
He was instrumental in the development of many projects throughout the community, including the swimming pool and the Akron Airport. One of Ray's greatest passions in life was aviation, he enjoyed flying with family and friends. He also enjoyed bowling and golfing. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Akron. Ray served on many civic and volunteer groups, offering assistance and help whenever needed.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife of over 45 years, Mickey, of Akron; his son, Jespersen of Wagner, S.D.; his daughter, MariEtta Adams of Overland Park, a granddaughter, Kim Feathers and her husband, Tim of Overland Park, and their children, Austin and Olivia; a grandson, Steve Adams his wife, Kelly of Omaha, and their children, Taylor and Brayden; a brother, Glenn Jespersen of Armour, S.D.; two sisters, Arlene Merkwan of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Helen Chernotik of Wagner, S.D.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ed and 'Elmer Jespersen; and his first wife, Helen. Pallbearers will be Steve Adams, Tim Feathers, Dickie Hartmann, Jim Merkwan, James Hartmann and Ed Searls. Edward J.

Bollmeyer, 98, of Hinton, passed away peacefully on Friday Oct. 19, 2007, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City. Services will be 10 a.m.
Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Hinton, with the Rev. Kenneth Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars, Iowa.
Visitation will resume one hour prior to service time Monday at church. The former Violetta Louise Kasch was born Oct. 1, 1909, in McCausland, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Martha Kasch. She graduated from Oto High School. After graduation, she attended Morningside College in Sioux City, where she earned her teaching certificate.
She taught at Miller No. 7 Country School in 1929. She married Edwin Bollmeyer on Dec. 4, 1929. They moved to the farm in 1930, where they began their farming careers.
While on the farm, "Grandma Vi" enjoyed baking homemade bread, making milk and dumplings, quilting, crocheting, gardening and playing in her many card clubs. She was an active member in the church, Ladies Aide and Senior Citizens. She enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed many fishing trips to Minnesota. She had a great sense of humor about life, including making raw hamburger and onion sandwiches, horseradish greens and bread and butter pickles.
She also enjoyed making blankets for all of her grandchildren. Grandma Vi was the neighborhood cook for all of the "wild game" caught during hunting season. Survivors include her two sons, Eldo Bollmeyer and his wife, Midge and Everett Bollmeyer and his special friend, Karen, all of Hinton; seven grandchildren, I Dennis (Judy) Bollmeyer, Cindy (Bill) Kallsen, Lance (Rachel) Bollmeyer and Vickie (Joe) Krapfl, all of Hinton, Eldo Jr. of Biloxi, Dean (Judy) Bollmeyer of Bush, and Kathy Bollmeyer of Hinton; 31 great-grandchildren; and 21 Violetta L. Bollmeyer great -grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; her parents; a brother, Clarence Kasch; a daughter-in-law, Betty Bollmeyer; and many brothers and sisters-in-law.
