Boating accidents killed 22 in state WOOD By The Associated Press Twenty-two people died as a result of boating accidents in Virginia last year, according to a spokesman for the Commission of Game and Inland Fisheries. James Kerrick, the commission's education administrator, said Tuesday the figures for 1984 show a total of 77 accidents on inland and tidal waters, representing a decline from the previous year. One hundred accidents in 1983 resulted in 35 deaths. Kerrick said most of the accidents last year were the result of simple negligence on the part of experienced boaters.

He attributed some of the accidents and deaths to a lack of information on boating. According to Kerrick, some people try to drive a boat like a car.
