It has been almost seven years since Smith Hall was demolished. Despite this, the Japanese Maples that used to stand beside the iconic dormitory are still alive, growing, and keeping our campus beautiful in their second home outside of Jennie Murphree. Smith Hall was once considered the tallest building between Pensacola and Tallahassee and holds a special place in FSU's history, and we are proud to preserve its legacy.#FSU #FloridaState #Facilities #BuildingExcellence #FacilitiesMaintenance #JapaneseMaples

Happy #FloraFriday from a group of #FloridaNativePlants at . The silver and green Saw Palmettos (Serenoa repens) and Coontie (Zamia integrifolia) are foundation plantings on the building's east side. With a tropical aesthetic, these low-maintenance #FloridaNatives are cold-hardy, require no irrigation, and are considered free of any substantial pests and diseases. #FSU #FloridaFriendlyLandscaping #BuildingExcellence

Tallahassee has encountered atypical weather patterns recently, including a record-breaking 24-hour rainfall of 7.11" on April 10 and 11. The team at the pipe and construction labor shops have been diligently addressing subsequent drainage challenges on campus as a result of the above-average rainfall, including cleaning out storm drains and implementing drainage improvements. Last week, the team began working on the area between Dirac Science Library and Woodward Parking Garage. #FSU #BuildingExcellence #Trades #Tallahassee #Drainage #Stormwater

Last week, the Facilities Maintenance Construction Labor Shop responded quickly to an issue detected in the campus' utility infrastructure. A team quickly responded and the steam link was efficiently repaired. #FSU #FloridaState #BuildingExcellence #SteamLink #Facilities #FacilitiesMaintenance

While students are away for the summer, Housing Maintenance is hard at work prepping the residence halls for students to return! Pictured here, Housing Maintenance at Gilchrist Hall is performing their summer "sweeps" where they inspect the rooms from top to bottom, repairing any lighting, furniture, restroom amenities, blinds, and more before students move in during the Summer B or Fall semesters. #FSUFacilities #FacilitiesMaintenance #BuildingExcellence #FSUHousing #Facilities #FSURoom #FSUDorm #FSUGilchrist #FSUGilchristHall
