Family drama and political maneuvering: A turbulent situation unfolds in Bihar's RJD party. Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, facing public criticism from his sister and attacks from his brother, offered to step down as the RJD's legislative party leader. But his father, Lalu Prasad, quickly intervened, insisting he remain at the helm.
During a recent meeting, an emotional Tejashwi addressed RJD MLAs, giving them the choice to elect a new leader. This followed public accusations of misbehavior from his sister, Rohini Acharya, and criticism from his elder brother, Tej Pratap. Interestingly, Tejashwi also subtly addressed the family conflict, mentioning he was asked to deny a ticket to someone but refused. And this is the part most people miss... the dynamics of family influence in political decisions.
The meeting was attended by key figures, including Lalu Prasad, his wife and former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi, and their daughter and party MP Misa Bharti. Also present was Sanjay Yadav, Tejashwi's aide, who is at the center of the internal turmoil.
The MLAs ultimately re-elected Tejashwi as their leader. The party also discussed their disappointing election performance, particularly the narrow margins of defeat in several constituencies.
But here's where it gets controversial... Senior RJD leader Jagadanand Singh blamed Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for the party's poor showing, claiming they were misused. Another MLA, Bhai Birendra, echoed this sentiment, calling for elections to be conducted using ballot papers. This accusation raises questions about the integrity of the election process.
RJD secured only 25 out of the 143 seats it contested in the 243-member Bihar assembly, finishing third. This is a significant drop from the 2020 elections, where RJD emerged as the single largest party.
What do you think? Do you believe the accusations against the EVMs hold weight? How much influence should family dynamics have in political leadership? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
