Free the Grapes! is a national, grassroots coalition of consumers, wineries and retailers who seek to remove restrictions in states that still prohibit consumers from purchasing wines directly from wineries and retailers.

Washington State is the second largest producer of wine in the nation, contributing more than $3 billion to the state economy and employing more than 14,000 people. The Washington Wine Commission is responsible for the promotion and development of the Washington wine industry, representing more than 500 wineries, 350 wine grape growers and 31,000 vineyard acres. The Washington Wine Institute (WWI) is the voice on regulatory and legislative issues that affect the Washington wine industry. This lobbying organization represents wine producers and associates on all Washington State and key federal legislative and regulatory issues impacting the industry. As a not for profit corporation, the WWI is funded solely by dues.

The mission of the State Liquor Control Board is to promote public safety by preventing the misuse of alcohol and tobacco through controlled retail and wholesale distribution, licensing, regulation, enforcement and education.
